Steven "Kern" Broussard

Maurice - A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice for Steven “Kern” Broussard, age 68, who passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 in Franklin. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 from 10:00 AM until service time at Cypress Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 12:00 Noon. Some people leave their mark with words. Others leave it in the ground they shaped. Steven “Kern” Broussard was one of those people. He spent much of his life in the seat of an excavator, doing what he loved and what he did better than just about anyone. To him, an excavator wasn’t just a piece of equipment, it was an extension of himself. Whether he was digging a pond, clearing land, or grading a job to perfection, he took immense pride in his work. His years of experience and steady hand were unmatched. There wasn’t much he couldn’t do with a bucket and a set of tracks. When he wasn’t moving dirt, you’d likely find him in a dove field, shotgun in hand, enjoying the peace of the outdoors and the company of his father. He also loved sports and never passed up the chance to cheer on his favorite teams or reminisce about his days playing coed softball. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures: a hard day’s work, a good laugh, time spent outdoors, and stories shared long after the work was done. His legacy lives on in the ponds, job sites, and countless projects he helped build, as well as in the memories shared by those who worked beside him, hunted with him, played ball with him, and knew him throughout the years. Though he has laid down the controls for the last time, the mark he left on this world and on the people who knew him will remain. Kern is survived by his children, Miranda Broussard (Robert), Steven "Brodie" Broussard (Aimee), and Katie Broussard Domingue (Patrick); his grandchildren, Jared Bryce Scalisi, Ann Claire Broussard, Amelia Lynn Broussard, Kennedy Menard, and Ella Domingue; his great-grandchildren, Emma and Noah Scalisi; his mother, Agnes Broussard; his siblings, Adonna Trahan (Bryan) and Troy Broussard; his Godchild, Paige McClendon (Kaleb); as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest "T-Fred" Broussard; and his niece, Alyssa Menard. The family would like to extend a thank you to his friends and neighbors for the support that they offered him over the years. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cypress Funeral Home & Crematory, 206 W. Lafayette St., Maurice, LA 70555.
