Stephen Guidry

Scott - Stephen Guidry, 79, was born on January 5, 1947, and passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love for the simple joys of life. A Liturgy of the Word will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice. Deacon Tim Marcantel will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time at Cypress Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed by Dcn. Tim Marcantel at 12:00 PM. Military honors will follow the services. Stephen was a proud and devoted grandfather to his beloved granddaughter, Angelle, who brought him immense joy and pride. He was known for his quick wit and warm presence. A great domino player, Stephen could often be found enjoying a friendly (and competitive) game. He was a daily regular at Dwyer’s Café, where mornings were spent over breakfast, reading the newspaper, and “bullshitting with the guys,” as he liked to say. Stephen was a proud Ragin’ Cajun alumnus and season ticket holder, passionately supporting their sports teams. Football held a special place in his heart—he loved all football and was famous for watching multiple games at once. Stephen proudly served his country as a United States Navy Veteran and dedicated 30 years of service to the State of Louisiana, a commitment he carried with pride throughout his life. An amazing cook, Stephen showed his love through food, always happy to feed those around him. His Cajun cooking was especially legendary, and his nieces and nephews couldn’t wait to gather around the table when they knew he was cooking. He was also a regular at La Fonda’s, where he enjoyed their margaritas and time spent with friends. Stephen was an exceptional bowler and proudly bowled multiple perfect games, an accomplishment he carried with quiet pride. He also coached football at Fatima alongside his best friend, Jimmy. Stephen loved to travel with his family, cherishing time spent together along the way. His goal was to visit all 50 states, and while he made it to 47 of them, the journey meant more to him than the number. On road trips, he especially enjoyed listening to Western swing, filling the miles with music, conversation, and laughter. He also found simple joy in watching calves in the springtime, a quiet pleasure that brought him peace and contentment. Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Ray Guidry; his mother, Beatrice Hernandez Guidry; and his sister, Sandra Ashy. Stephen is survived by his wife, Stella Angelle Guidry; his daughter, Stefanie Guidry (Shane Rushing); his granddaughter, Angelle Meche; his stepmother, Grace Guidry; his brother, Michael Guidry; and his sister, Bonnie White. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stephen’s memory to Hospice of Acadiana, the American Lung Association, or Cancer Centers of America. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of Acadiana and to all of Stephen’s wonderful doctors for their compassionate care and support. Stephen Guidry will be remembered for his humor, his friendships, his passions, and the love he shared so freely.
