Shelvin Ray Trahan

Maurice - Shelvin Ray Trahan, age 67, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 in Maurice. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Affectionately known as “Bubba”, Shelvin was born on August 12, 1958 in Lafayette and he was a longtime resident of Maurice. He truly never met a stranger; he quickly became friends with anyone and everyone he came across. He worked for 30+ years at Musso Shoe Repair - he had a real talent for working on shoes, and anyone who knew him would tell you so. Some might say Shelvin was a good “sole”, mostly because of his love for jokes. Shelvin was an aficionado of various foods and drinks, with an emphasis on the latter. He enjoyed a little bit of everything, ranging from a good Old Fashioned to a Blue Diesel. If it was a Friday night, you could be sure that Shelvin was at Pinchers enjoying dinner with his wife, Bonnie, and anyone else who would join them. If he wasn’t at Pinchers, you might find him barbecuing for his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing as well, especially with his brother-in-law, Mark, in Georgia. He was also notoriously known for his babysitting, whether it be children or dogs. Shelvin and Bonnie were the “village” in “it takes a village” - while they did not have children of their own, they helped raise so many beloved children; they were second parents to many. Shelvin truly did not realize the impact he made in the lives of so many of those around him. He will be forever missed and eternally loved. Shelvin is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Bonnie Vice Trahan; his siblings, Tony Trahan (Sharlene), Ellis "Tiger" Trahan, Sue Gabler, Kim "Chick" Cormier (Jessie); his stepsiblings, CJ Broussard, Betty Lantier, John Allen Broussard, Darrel Broussard, Tina Leger, and Lisa Broussard; his stepmother, Joyce Broussard Trahan; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Randy Vice, Charlene Alleman (Leroy), Melissa Vincent, Tina Maness (Mark), Timmy Credeur (Lisa), and Mark Credeur; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and Godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudell Leger Trahan and John Warren Lee Trahan; his nieces, Randi Lynn Vice and Melissa Ann Stutes; as well as his in-laws, Grace B. Credeur and Leroy Credeur. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cypress Funeral Home & Crematory, 206 W. Lafayette St., Maurice, LA 70555.
