Roland John Norris

Abbeville - Roland John Norris, age 69, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in Abbeville surrounded by his loved ones. Roland John Norris was born on September 1, 1954 in Erath and he was a longtime resident of Abbeville. He lived his life for his grandchildren ensuring he would leave them all with a lifelong nickname starting from birth, all 9; continuing this as his great-grandbabies started arriving. Time was everything. Nothing in his life revolved around material possessions, unless it was a TV and LSU was on. Or Nascar, maybe a horse race - but LSU, he was die-hard fan. We all knew where we could find him during football season, and if you had trouble, you could sure hear the "coaching" coming from his chair in the living room. He absolutely loved visits from everyone, but you would have to sometimes get past his favorite guard dog Jackie, or as he would call him "Jackooo". Again, time was everything to him and his favorite way to always spend it was surrounded by his family & friends. You didn't even have to talk. He inspired so many people throughout his life and touched just about everyone he crossed paths with. He was full of wisdom, full of love, and boy did he live his life to the fullest. He loved his wife of 44 years like no other. He was the backbone of his family and all his grandchildren’s number 1 supporter. Roland is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Abbie Roy Norris; his children, Dawn Frederick and Janise Norris; his grandchildren, Skyler Aube' (Alex), Sarae' Ladner (Dale), Marissa Almanza (Devin), Christian Townley, Lizzie Townley, Kaleb Townley, Michael Melancon, Kasey Townley, and Camden Mire; as well as his great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Aube', Adalyn Aube', Rylie Ladner, Hazel Blanchard, Luka Blanchard, Roran Ladner, and Kash Landry; as well as his siblings, Cindy LeBeouf, Stanley Norris (Lynda), Stephanie Bigot (Richard), and Allen Norris (Sis). He was preceded in death by his parents, Junius Norris and Wanda Norris; his brother, Mark Norris, Sr.; his grandson, Keb Townley; his brothers-in-law, Harvey LeBeouf and Carl Chaisson; as well as his in-laws, Reno Roy and Nola Roy. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in honor of Roland John Norris to the LSU Athletics Department. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Shane Miguez, Lynda Chaisson, Connie O'Bryan, Helen Viator, Cindy LeBeouf, Pastor Chad, the doctors, nurses, and staff of St. Joseph's Hospice, as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. The family would like to recognize the kindness and compassion given to them during their time of need by Saul Almanza, PJ Townley, and Mark Bolner.
