Abbeville - Ricky "Rick" Allen Cornez, age 70, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026 in Abbeville. Rick was born on April 27, 1956 in Martins Ferry, OH, and he was a resident of Abbeville. Rick lived life on his own terms and was never afraid to speak his mind. Strong-willed and independent, he faced life with determination and did things his own way. Rick proudly served his country in the United States military and carried that same spirit of resilience throughout his life. He loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing, where he found peace and happiness. He also enjoyed sitting in his front room watching his fish, a simple pastime that brought him comfort and joy. Rick had a special love for animals and cared deeply for all of his pets, including his beloved dog, Cheech, as well as his fish, bearded dragons, and snakes, which brought him great enjoyment over the years. Those who knew Rick best understood that beneath his stubborn nature was a man with a truly caring heart. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer support when it was needed, or simply be there for the people he loved. He valued family, friendship, and loyalty, and the relationships he built throughout his life meant the world to him. Rick’s life was defined not by material things, but by the memories he created, the lives he touched, and the love he shared. He will be remembered for his strength, his generosity, his sense of humor, and the unwavering love he had for his family, friends, and beloved animals. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the stories told, the lessons he shared, and the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love him. Rick is survived by his daughter, Cassie Windmon (Jawuan) of Scott; his grandchildren, Javion Johnson, Trae Thibodeaux, Taniyah Thibodeaux, Tia Thibodeaux, Jhace Henderson, Cali Spraggins, Honor Windmon, and Kalea Windmon; his siblings, Georgette Vice, Victoria Tucker, Monica Tucker, and Ralph Tucker; his nieces and nephews, Jackie C. DeRouen, Randy Johnson, Stephanie Hardy, Anthony Hardy, Adrian Bishop, Brian Cornez Jr., and Heather Cornez; along with an abundance of great-nieces and great-nephews; his sister-in-law, Charlotte Cornez, who is the widow of his late brother, Brian Cornez; as well as his chosen and very loved family, Dana Mayers, Mindy Hargrave, Robert Johnson, Khloe Johnson, Belinda Henry, and Garry Brown. He was preceded in death by his mother, Willena McTee; his father, Leonard “Jack” McTee; his brother, Brian Cornez; and his loving companion and soulmate, Stephanie Norman. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Acadiana for the compassionate care, comfort, and support provided to Rick during his final days. We would also like to thank his brother Ralph Tucker and sisters Georgette Vice and Monica Tucker for their love, support, and dedication in helping care for him.
