Polycarpe "Paul" Istre

Kaplan - Interment will take place on Saturday, June 29th, 2024, at 9:00 am at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Kaplan for "Paul" Istre, age 81, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2024, in Abbeville. Timmy Farris will officiate. An After Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, June 29th, 2024, beginning at 10:00 am at 211 Eleazar Ave. Kaplan, LA 70548 Paul was born on June 28, 1942, in Abbeville and he was a resident of Kaplan. At a young age, he worked on a farm for his grandfather, and when he turned 18 he went to trade school for electronics where he met his wife. After graduation, Paul worked as a television repair man until the age of 55 where he took an alternative position as a delivery person until his retirement. As Paul was going to trade school, he became a “Non-denomination Christian Preacher” which he followed for the rest of his life. He enjoyed watching old Western TV shows and NFL football games and listening to Gospel music. Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who without a doubt had a very kind heart. He aimed to show peace amongst all who he was around, and the most important thing to him was to “spread the word of the Bible.” Paul will be dearly missed. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Audrey Guidry Istre; his children, Norma Duhon (Clarence David Duhon) of Abbeville, Elizabeth Broussard (Brian Broussard) of Kaplan, Paula Touchet (Ricky Touchet) of Kaplan, and Philip Istre (Jenna Istre) of Meaux; his grandchildren, Stephen Lege Jr., Tabitha Lege, Ashley Duhon, Jordan Touchet, Lexi Touchet, Shawn Istre, Shelby Touchet, Jason Istre, Shawna Istre, and Finn Istre; his great-grandchildren, Ronald Lewis III, Toshie’ona Lewis, Mitchell Lemaire, Fedor Istre, Leon Mason III, Olivia Touchet, Waylon Lege, Emmett Lege, and Parker Touchet; his siblings, Lawrence Istre of Iowa, Gloria Jenkin (Roy Jenkin) of Abbeville, Betty Istre of Abbeville, Leslie Istre (Lou Istre) of Texas, and Harry Istre (Mary Istre) of Kaplan; as well as many loved ones, Angela Meaux, Darrel Istre, Jeremy Istre, Jarad Istre, Sheila Fredrick, Brad Graffeo, Tad Graffeo, Jayden Svay, Stephanie Reed, Jennifer Gary, Jeann Mire, Jessie Mire, Chaz Mire, Devon Mire, Evan Mire, Tonya Daigle, Jacob Lange, Zain Copeland, Marissa Copeland, Cassandra Mckinny, Desrae Abshire, Danna Mason, Mistye Gordon, Devon Gordon, Bradley Gordon, Christian Gordon, Shantell Guidry, and Lauren Romero. He was preceded in death by his parents, Onezime Istre Jr., and Marie Nolia Driskell; his son, Michael Istre; as well as his grandparents, Onezime Istre Sr., Jim Istre, Charles Harrington, and Matilda Harrington. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Eastridge Nursing and Rehabilitation and Hope Hospice for the care and compassion they offered Polycarpe "Paul" Istre and his family during their time of need.
