Maurice "Shamee" Broussard

Maurice - A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice, Louisiana for Maurice “Shamee” Broussard, age 90, who passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, February 23, 2024, in Maurice, Louisiana. His nephew, Deacon Ronald Roy will officiate the service. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 8:30 am until the service time at Cypress Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 11:00 am at Cypress Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the Seveigner Broussard Family Cemetery in Maurice, Louisiana. Maurice “Shamee” Broussard was born on June 22, 1933, in Lafayette, Louisiana and he was a longtime resident of Maurice, Louisiana. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 and served in the artillery as a corporal (T). After his honorable discharge from military service, Maurice worked as a welder, diesel mechanic, and shop foreman for Horace B. Rickey Construction Company, then later he contracted with the Lafayette Parish School Board as a bus driver. He was a 32-degree Mason and was a member of the Scottish Rite, Knights Templar, Grande Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Louisiana, Evangeline Shrine Club, as well as the Cryptic Masons of Louisiana. Maurice later retired and was able to travel in his RV with his wife, Earline. He enjoyed camping during their travels together. Maurice was an active Shriner and volunteer. He donated his time transporting children from Shreveport, Galveston, and Houston areas to the Shriners Hospital and Burn Center in Galveston, Texas. Maurice enjoyed working with his hands, as well as tinkering and working on things. He will be dearly missed. Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Earline Touchet Broussard of Maurice, Louisiana; his two children, Rickey Broussard, Sr. (Kathleen) of Youngsville, Louisiana and Diana Broussard Stimpson (Douglas) of Conroe, Texas; his seven grandchildren, Rickey Broussard, Jr. (Jamie), Danielle Broussard Erbe (Andrew), Tiffany Broussard Boudreaux, Chad Stelly (Melissa), Brad Stelly (Raven), Seth Broussard (Christine), and Caleb Broussard (Courtney); his 16 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Blade, Jessie, Haden, Emma, Ian, Ella, Avery, Jaxon, Connor, Bennett, Josie, Rowan, Dax, Colton, and Weston; his two great-great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Nova; his three siblings, Enith Roy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Anna Mae Lanier of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Lester “Bobby” Broussard of Lafayette, Louisiana; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Calvin Broussard; his parents, Rudolph Broussard and Avia Duhon Broussard; as well as his siblings, Dorothy McDonald, Anna Lee Bourque, and Wilbert Broussard. Pallbearers will be Rickey Broussard, Jr., Tyler Broussard, Chad Stelly, Brad Stelly, Seth Broussard, and Caleb Broussard. Honorary pallbearer will be Jaxon Boudreaux. The family wishes to offer a heartfelt thank you to Maurice’s caregiver, Melinda Weaver for the loving care and compassion she offered Maurice and his family during his time of need. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Maurice “Shamee” Broussard to Seveigner Broussard Family Cemetery, 1504 Young Street, Broussard, LA 70518.
