Mark James Trahan

Gueydan - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 10:00 am at Saint David's Chapel in Kaplan for Mark James Trahan, 69, who passed away at his home Tuesday, August 13, 2024 with his wife and children at his side. Mark was born on October 30, 1954 in Abbeville, Louisiana. He was a member of St. David’s Catholic Church and a lifelong resident of Vermilion Parish. He farmed rice and worked cattle with his father and was a licensed boat captain. He traveled the gulf extensively in his younger years before returning to rice and crawfish farming. He was a passionate outdoorsman- a fisherman, avid waterfowl hunter and deer hunter. He is remembered by those who love him as talented and inquisitive. He spoke fluent French and taught himself to play traditional Cajun songs on the accordion. He planted a large garden every year and loved trying different heirloom varieties. He kept a constant eye on the weather and its patterns, he was well read on most practical matters and he prayed often and deeply for his country. He was a rod and reel repair hobbyist and especially enjoyed visiting with his customers. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and was happiest hunting and fishing with his wife, family and friends. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Lena Benoit Trahan, daughter Mandy Trahan Yeager and her husband Brian, his son Blaine Paul Trahan, daughter Marie Denise Trahan, his granddaughter Madison Broussard who was like a daughter to him, granddaughter Caroline Trahan, grandchildren Noah Vincent and Lanie Vincent, and their father Spence Vincent. Mark is also survived by his mother, Theresa de Perrodil Trahan, sister Ann Trahan Duhon and her husband Blane, brother Dirk Trahan, niece Cassie Soucy and her husband Matt Soucy. He was preceded in death by his father Peter Paul Trahan and younger brother Neal Paul Trahan. He will be laid to rest at St. David’s Chapel in Gueydan. His earthly presence is already keenly missed by his extended family and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cypress Funeral Home & Crematory, 206 W. Lafayette St., Maurice, LA 70555.
