Joy McClelland Groth

Abbeville - On September 11, 2021 Joy McClelland Groth, loving mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 87. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Cypress Funeral Home, 206 W Lafayette St, Maurice, LA, followed by a burial in Reed Cemetery, 213 Reed’s Cemetery Rd, Oberlin, LA. Deacon Keith Duhon of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Visitation will be held be held from 10:00AM until the time of Service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Cypress Funeral Home. Joy was born on June 15, 1934 in Oakdale, LA to Elbert and Hazel Gordon. She married Jack McClelland in 1955. They raised five children together: Mike, Jean, Jeff, Jim and Jan. After being widowed, she married Walter Groth in 1990, extending her family with her step children Anna Burdick, Hayden Groth, Lou Groth, and Teri Groth. Joy had a passion for hospitality and always made everyone feel welcome in her home. She was an extraordinary cook; no one ever left her house hungry. She was admired by friends and family for her compassionate spirit. Most of all, Joy loved spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them to be creative. She loved Christmas and made sure her family enjoyed every Christmas Eve at her house, celebrating with laughter and delicious food. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Hazel Gordon, husband Jack McClelland, husband Walt Groth, children Mike McClelland & Jean McClelland, and brothers Leo Gordon, Floyd Gordon & Louis “Sox” Gordon. To cherish her memory are her children, Jeff (Dianne) of Youngsville, LA, Jim (Candace) McClelland of Roswell, NM and Jan Nevils of Broussard, LA. Grandchildren Amy Stakes (Brady), Jake McClelland (Sarah), Garrett McClelland (Kodi), Justin McClelland (Brittany), Nick McClelland (Kate), Charlie Dischler (Katie), and Jennifer Dischler, along with 10 great grandchildren. “Every day that I have had with you has been my favorite.” Thank you to the staff at Eastridge Assisted Living in Abbeville, LA for all of their support.
