John Curley Sounier

Erath - John “Pete” Sounier, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Abbeville General Hospital surrounded by his family. John was born October 29, 1939, in Delcambre, LA and was a resident of Erath for 40 years. He was a humble and kind man with a great appreciation for life. John enjoyed providing for his family, always working to make sure they had what they needed and more. He thoroughly enjoyed being outside in his beautiful garden; even through his struggles with cancer, he spent most of his time there admiring his hard work. John loved watching and supporting the New Orleans Saints, enclosing his patio to display his Saints memorabilia proudly. He had the opportunity to meet and talk to Drew Brees, creating a personal relationship with him. John loved his family and friends; never missing an event or occasion that they invited him to. His world revolved around his deep love and devotion to his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he adored with all of his heart. John’s compassion and love for his wife, Clue, showed brightly when she fell sick from cancer. He was at her bedside until the last day, taking care of her every need. During John’s last days his dog, Snow could be seen at his side at any point of the day. He will be dearly missed. John is survived by his daughter, Donnell Sounier; his grandchildren, Jacquelyn Suire (Christopher Deshotels), and Joshua Dent (Kensie); his great-grandchildren, Bralyn Landry, Ashton Staute, Tanner Vallot, Bronc Deshotels, Ahmie Dent, and Rainn Dent; and his siblings, Shirley Landry, Jane Broussard, and Connie Trahan. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Placide Sonnier and Lilly Romero Sonnier; his loving wife, Cludette Broussard Sounier; his brother, Ronald Saunier; and his granddaughter, Brandy Aimee Suire. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Rick Faul, the Nurses and Staff at Grace Home Health, as well as the Nurses and Staff at Abbeville General Hospital, especially Melody and Mia, for the care and compassion showed to John; Jacquelyn Suire for the time and care she took to meal prep and create a cancer regimen; Connie Trahan for taking care of the banking and financials; TJ (Todd) for calling to check on the family; Larry for being the one to call the ambulance; his niece Dannette Dore; his grandson Joshua and his wife Kensie for spending their days and nights in the hospital with John, making sure he was not trying to operate the hospital machinery; and his former spouse, Edna Sounier for cleaning and helping out during his final days.
