John "Johnny" Leed McLaurin

Lafayette - A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Saint Peter and Paul Knights of Columbus Hall for John "Johnny" Leed McLaurin, age 84, who passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026 in Lafayette. Johnny was born on December 26, 1941 in Breaux Bridge and he was a long-time resident of Lafayette. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He deeply loved and cherished his wife of 50 years, Debbe. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, trained at Camp Pendleton and was stationed at Camp Lejeune. Johnny was a graduate of Cathedral Carmel High School and SLI, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. He spent his career in the oilfield as a mud and completion fluids engineer, working for companies such as Magcobar and Osca, and later as an independent consultant. During his time at Osca, Johnny built lasting relationships with those he worked with, often welcoming coworkers into his home for fish fry's and BBQs. Johnny loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and took great joy in bringing his sons along on many fishing and hunting adventures, especially at his beloved camp in Henderson. He took immense pride in meticulously maintaining his yard, grass, and flower beds—something he continued to do well into his 80s. He was also a devoted bird watcher and found deep peace in nature. Over the past 20 years, Johnny’s greatest joy came from spending time with and nurturing his grandsons, Dylan, Cooper, and Bryson, whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his loving wife, Debbe McLaurin, of 50 years; his children, Casey J. McLaurin (Rogell) of Maurice, and Kelly P. McLaurin (Cassie) of Maurice; his grandchildren, Dylan McLaurin, Cooper McLaurin, and Bryson Lege; his siblings, Marguerite McLaurin Reid (Mike) of Lafayette, and Linda McLaurin Shorey of Lafayette; his several nieces and nephews whom he was very fond of; and his grand puppy, Cheeter. He is preceded in death by his father, James H. McLaurin Sr. “Mac”; his mother, Marguerite Angelle McLaurin “Nana”; his brothers, James H. McLaurin Jr. “Jimmy”, and Michael M. McLaurin; and his grand puppy, Speck. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cypress Funeral Home & Crematory, 206 W. Lafayette St., Maurice, LA 70555.
