New Iberia - Jeffrey Shane Derouen, age 58, passed away peacefully at his residence on September 1, 2022, in New Iberia, LA. Jeffrey was born on September 18, 1963, in New Iberia, LA and he was a lifelong resident of Iberia Parish. His family will remember him for his loving, giving, and kind spirit. Jeffrey was the life of the party and loved making people smile. Everyone he met loved him and knew he would give the shirt off of his back if they were in need, but if you were looking for shoes he couldn’t help you there because he never wore any. Jeffrey especially loved his four sisters who spoiled him with food and affection. He knew that, if he were hungry, he could go to any of their homes and there would be a plate waiting. Jeffrey was proud of the way he lived life day by day and always did what he wanted to do. Shortly before his passing, he told his sister Marty that he had no regrets in life and felt he had lived it to the fullest. Jeffrey had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews; spending time with them gave him great joy and filled his heart with love. The bond he had with his dog, Tiger, was unmatchable. Jeffrey’s favorite hobby and a passion of his was training and pitting his roosters. He was a collector, always looking for a good find to add. Jeffrey’s compassionate, funny, and giving personality will be greatly missed by all of those who loved and adored him. Jeffrey is survived by his sisters, Marty Watterson (Rocky), Lorraine Lockhart (Robert), Shannon Derouen (Danny), and Patricia Girard (Craig); his uncle, Adam Porrier Jr.; his nieces and nephews, Jeremy Watterson, Kayla Broussard, Jill Landry, Tori Babineaux, and Brittany Moyer; his 12 great nephews and one great niece; an abundance of beloved cousins; as well as Marty’s sister-in-law, Deana Watterson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Shirley Derouen; and his grandparents, Loyce Derouen, Doris Tate, Adam Porrier Sr., and Rose Touchet. The family wishes to offer a heartfelt thank you to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Bridgeway Hospice, Dr. Cormier and Dr. Russo of Lafayette, Mary Felicia Case, Rocky Watterson, Deana Waterson, Jimmy Watterson, and most of all Nurse Rhonda Darden for the care and compassion they offered Jeffrey and his family during his time of need.
