Kaplan- A Masonic funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the Abbeville Masonic Lodge 192 for Earl Toups, age 81, who passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026 in Abbeville, following a life defined by hard work, adventure, and steadfast devotion to his family. A man of strength, integrity, and quiet pride, Earl leaves behind a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Visitation will begin on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the Abbeville Masonic Lodge 192 at 9:00 AM and will continue until the service time. Born and raised in Kaplan, Louisiana, Earl attended Kaplan High School, graduating in 1962. From an early age, he displayed a strong work ethic and determination that would guide him throughout his life. After high school, he attended welding school and went on to build a long and accomplished career in pipeline and marine construction. Much of Earl's professional life was spent overseas, including many years working in the North Sea, where he advanced from Pipeline Welder to Lay Barge Superintendent and ultimately Operations Manager. He was widely respected for his leadership, discipline, and dependability, earning the trust and admiration of those who worked alongside him. Though his work often took him far from home, Earl carried the values of his upbringing wherever he went, approaching every responsibility with skill, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. For 58 years, Earl was a 32nd Degree Mason and Past Master. He lived by the principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth, faithfully upholding the obligations of the Craft and conducting his life according to its moral teachings. His devotion to Freemasonry and his upright character will be honored through Masonic funeral rites, a fitting tribute to a life honorably lived. Outside of his career, Earl was an avid hunter with a deep appreciation for the outdoors. His passion for hunting took him to many countries around the world - adventures he cherished and often shared through stories with family and friends. He found peace in nature, valued freedom, and embraced the beaty of wide-open spaces. Earl is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Cornelia "Corrie" Toups; his son, Earl Lee Toups II, and daughter-in-law Emina Toups; and his grandchildren, Liam McGregor Toups and Emira Adele Toups, who were a constant source of pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy LeBlanc Toups;his nephews, Charles H. Toups and wife Nickie, John Toups and wife Nicole, Eric Toups and wife Mikel, and Ted Toups and wife Megan; along with many cherished great-nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiltz Toups Sr. and Rena Dupuis Toups, and by his only brother, Wiltz Toups Jr. Those who knew Earl will remember him as a strong and hardworking man, a devoted husband and father, a proud Mason, and a man who lived life fully and on his own terms. His life was marked by perseverance, loyalty, and love - a life well lived, now laid to rest in peace. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cypress Funeral Home & Crematory, 206 W.
