Della Annette Gittins

Abbeville - A Memorial Service will be held on March 14, 2026 at New Life Church in Abbeville, LA, time pending, for Della Gittins, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 in Lafayette. Pastor Lane Payne will be the officiant. Della was born in Spearfish, South Dakota, hometown of the Passion Play. She completed high school and earned a diploma in Accounting from business school. During those years she gave her life to Jesus Christ, a faith that guided her throughout her life. Della spent most of her adult life in Nebraska and Iowa. She met her husband, Marvin W. Gittins, Jr., at Omaha Gospel Tabernacle; they were married in that same church in 1980. A year later, they welcomed a daughter. A warm and social soul, Della loved card and board games, music, and long conversations—whether in person or on the phone. She was also an avid cat lover. In 2013 Della and Marvin moved to Erath, Louisiana, to be near their daughter and grandchildren. On Mother’s Day 2020 she relocated to Abbeville, Louisiana, where she lived among family. Della will be remembered for her faith, her welcoming spirit, and the simple joys she shared with family and friends. Della is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Marvin W. Gittins Jr.; her daughter, Emily Bergeron of Abbeville, Louisana; her grandchildren, Alexander and Evelyn Bergeron; her siblings, Wanda Szymanski of Clinton Township, Michigan and Danny Stoller (Barb), retired Attorney at Law, of Elkhorn, Nebraska; her many nieces and nephews; and her cats, Coffee, Patches, Truffles, Lionel, Boots, Tiger, and Molly. She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Delbert Stoller; and her siblings, Yvonne Webster, David Stoller, and Dale Stoller. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana for the care and compassion they offered to Della and her family in their time of need.
