Lafayette - A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 6:00 pm at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice, for Virginia “Ginger” Anderson, age 78, who passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Lafayette, Louisiana. Chaplain Shelton Clay of Heart of Hospice will officiate the service. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Cypress Funeral Home. Virginia “Ginger” Anderson was born on January 7, 1943 in Greeley, Colorado and was a resident of Lafayette for over 30 years. Ginger was a survivor. She never focused on what life handed her, instead she looked around to see how she could reinvent herself. When life handed her lemons, she made lemonade. Ginger was determined and hardworking. She was a kind and caring person who was always willing to help others. The last 12 years of her career she worked for AFP as a switchboard operator. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, crochet, and puzzles. She also loved to dance. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially “Cami-Lou” her special dog friend who she dogsat on a regular basis. More than anything Ginger was a mother and a grandmother; she loved family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as a kind and generous woman who touched many lives along her journey. Ginger will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Ginger is survived by children, James Rutherford of Scott, and Cheryl Rutherford Dohmann, spouse (Richard) of Lafayette; her grandchildren, Keshia Cormier, spouse (Chris) and Danielle Alleman, spouse (Ed); her great-grandchildren, Lionel, Kylie, Brilyn, Sadie, Ashton, Jinsoo, Aria, Chase, Elora-Kate, and Elliana; as well as her brother, Jack Southard spouse (Barbara) of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gratton and Leona Scanlon; her sisters, Delilah Deines Berg, and Donna Rose Peluso; and her brother, Alfert Deines. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Heart of Hospice, especially Maggie, and Amanda. Thank you to family and friends, especially Karen and “G”, Richard and Jenny, Rene, Jessica, Kyle and Mrs. Nell, for all of the love, care and compassion that they showed to Ginger and our family during her time of need.
