Opelousas - Vernon "Wayne" Johnson born October 10, 1940 at Bayou Chicot, Louisiana and a resident of Opelousas, Louisiana for over 50 years died Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at age 75. Known for his distinctive voice, Wayne could be heard on KSLO radio during the 70’s and early 80’s. He worked at the Daily World for many years, as well as KDCG Television. Many will remember Wayne as Master of Ceremonies for the annual Louisiana Yambilee Association pageants. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Eldora "Doe" Roussel (Montgomery) Johnson; three children, daughter K. Monique Johnson Brinkhaus (Hans) of Sunset; sons F. Shane Johnson (Brittany) of Lafayette, and Kevin R. Johnson (Leo) of Denver, CO. Grandchildren Jacob Brinkhaus (Sara); Ruthanne Brinkhaus Myers (Gabe); Matthew Brinkhaus (Madison); Natalie, Luke, Joseph and Adam Brinkhaus; Hampton and Leighton Johnson, and great grandchildren Dax and Zeplin Brinkhaus; Freya, Augusta and Camille Myers; brother Curry Johnson (Ruth) of Edmond, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents Philip Hampton and Lottie Peters Johnson; brothers H.J. Johnson, Roy Johnson, and Dennis Johnson, and granddaughter Catherine C. Brinkhaus.
