Opal M. Abshire

Maurice - A Liturgy of the Word will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Cypress Funeral Home Chapel in Maurice for Opal M. Abshire, age 81, who passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, in Maurice. Deacon Keith Duhon of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 12:00 pm until the time of service at Cypress Funeral Home Chapel. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Cypress Funeral Home Chapel. Opal was born on August 14, 1941, in Abbeville and she was a lifelong resident of Vermilion Parish. She loved crabbing and fishing at Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge, working in her flower bed, and driving her school bus for the Vermilion Parish School Board. Opal was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy were her children and grandchildren. Opal will be dearly missed. Opal is survived by her three daughters, Jackie Hebert (Chuck), Renée LaPointe (Mark), and Andrea Cormier; her three sons, Jody Abshire (Ellie), Chad Abshire (Tracy), and Brad Abshire; her 18 grandchildren, Brandon LeBouef, Brady LeBouef, Brittany Broussard (Brock), Blake Hebert, Barrett Hebert, Paul Jacob Abshire, Brennan LaPointe, Bryson LaPointe (Kelsie), Payton LaPointe, Kristy Stelly, Matthew Campbell, Trent Abshire (Jaymie), Jordan Abshire, Celeste Abshire, Violeta Abshire, Derek Abshire, Kristopher Abshire, Tré Abshire (Madison); 12 great-grandchildren, Brent LeBouef, Bradyn LeBouef, Brynn Broussard, Bryce Broussard, Stella LaPointe, McKenna Sellers, McKade Stelly, Lincoln Abshire, Amari Abshire, Rio Abshire, Remy Abshire, and Anderson Abshire; two brothers, Lyman Meaux (Judy) and Garland Meaux (H’Ler); dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo P. Abshire; her two sons, Paul Brent Abshire and Clinton Abshire; her granddaughter, Briley LaPointe; her sister, Doris Broussard; as well as her parents, Jeuis and Rosie Meaux. The family wishes to offer a heartfelt thank you to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Amedisys Hospice Care; as well as Dr. Pham for the care and compassion they offered Opal and her family during her time of need.
