Broussard - A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 6:30 pm at One Church in Lafayette for Maureen Ann Schultz, age 58, who passed away at her residence on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, in Broussard. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at One Church in Lafayette. Born on August 8, 1964, Maureen Ann Schultz was the quintessential Leo woman. A proud mix of German and Houmas Indian ancestry, she was endowed with statuesque height, alluring eyes, an infectious smile and a rambunctious laugh, which made a lasting impression on everyone she met. It was her quick wit and intelligence that could hold your attention long after she gained it. Raised in the deep south she embodied a culture of faith, family, and fun and these values were cornerstones throughout her life. It is because of an outward expression of her personal relationship with Jesus Christ that we have certainty that she is now in the presence of the Almighty, fully restored and in perfect peace for all of eternity. She instilled in her children a love of God that echoes throughout the generations and ensures that they will be reunited in Heaven one glorious day. Those that know her best say that Maureen never met a stranger, she possessed an uncanny ability to make you feel like family instantly. She adored her father, a larger-than-life Steam Boat captain navigating the waters of the Mississippi River. She shared her love of cheetah print and coffee with her mother. She was often found on the phone with her family and friends, nurturing and maintaining these relationships throughout her life. She was a dedicated best friend and her commitment to her inner circle was not bound by time or distance. She embodied a spirit of service and provided a welcoming safe space free of condemnation, but rather filled with optimism and unconditional love. Fiercely loyal, she had an uncanny ability to make her loved ones feel just how important they were to her. Though she only had five biological children, she had many “adopted” children that were like family to her. To her friends, she was known as “Moe”, to her “adopted kids” she was known as “Mama Moe.” She was a great mother and devoted grandmother. When she became a grandmother at 37, she found a whole new version of herself. She found much joy in being with her grandchildren, and to them she was "Nena”, “Granna”, and “MoeMoe." Never one to be a wallflower, Maureen loved music, line dancing, traveling, and entertaining her family. There was hardly a dull moment when she was around because of her spontaneity and willingness to take on life's next grand adventure and create lasting memories. She collected and valued mementoes of her children and grandchildren’s lives that reveal just how important she saw every second she was granted on this earth. Until we meet again in Heaven, we cherish the moments we had knowing that while the body is absent the love remains. Maureen Ann Schultz is survived by her children, Margie Dietrich, Joey Dietrich, Misty Miller, Hailey Elliott, and Jarrett Elliott; her grandchildren, Kamryn Willis, Zoe Steen, Angel Straughn, Brooklyn Willis, Londyn Pousson, Nevaeh Dietrich, Payton Dietrich, Mya Grace Dietrich, Selah Miller, Mycah Dietrich, Enoch Miller, and Lula Elliott; her siblings, Sherry Richardson, Vickie Dunavant, Harold Schultz, Jr., and Corby Schultz; as well as her step-mother, Suzanne Schultz. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Schultz, Sr. and Norma Jean Atchinson; her maternal grandparents, Effie Creppel and James Atchinson; as well as her paternal grandparents, Harry and Loritta Williams. The family wishes to offer a heartfelt thank you to Bruce Gilcrease for the resources he provided as well as his thoughtful actions during a difficult transition in Maureen’s life.
