Lafayette - IN LOVING MEMORY OF DONNA S. HUDSON November 23, 1955 – May 21, 2021 You can learn a lot about someone from their phone, and size does matter. The smaller the phone, the more frugal that person is. And in this case, it shows how Donna S. Hudson did not need the finer things in life to be happy. All that mattered to her was her family and closest friends. Donna S. Hudson was born in late November in 1955 to the late Llyod and Jeanell Hudson. For almost sixty years, her hair was jet black. She stood nearly 5 foot 8 inches tall, big bones, too. Like her height, while more elevated than the average woman, her personality never overshadowed anyone. What a person would notice about Donna first was the sparkle in her eyes. A cherished Mother and Grandmother, and Friend, she will remain forever young as she passed away Friday, May 21, 2021. She will be remembered as the strongest person in our lives whom we relied on, and her unwavering love bestowed on our hearts will be the cradle we find comfort in. A mother’s love cannot be measured, released, broken, but her love can be taken for granted. There were hundreds of photos on her phone, some recipes and seashells art, and most of the photos were of her children, grandbabies, close friends, and even her first love, my father. She is survived by her beloved children, Mandy Whitley (husband Gerald Whitley), Robin Hebert-Guidry (husband Kelly Guidry), Kody Pyle and Elliot Pyle, her grandchildren, Sarah Whitley, Jeramiah Whitley, Westyn Pyle, and Zoe Guidry. An avid shell collector, she leaves behind a collection with about 4,000 seashells. A talented lady, who can do anything she put her mind to, was once a taxidermist, photographer and silversmith: a forever dog whisper, thrifty shopper, the coupon cutter, and best friend. There wasn’t anything mechanical that she could not speculate the workings. Donna, the jack of all trades, was a miss-fixer. When something broke, Donna knew a way to repair it. If Donna could fix our broken hearts, we know she’d find a way to leave Heaven if she could. Donna was a parts finisher at a machine shop for most of her career, she was the first woman to be hired in that position and with no prior experience, and soon after, she quickly proved herself. When on the verge of retiring and looking to make ends meet, she began her Doggie Love business, one of the first dog-sitting businesses in Lafayette, LA. Once retired, she spent the more significant part of her remaining years being the caretaker of her mother and disabled brother before being diagnosed with breast cancer. Donna fought the fight of (for) her life but was taken much too soon. Six months after recovering from a double mastectomy, she had developed leukemia. We all wanted to take the burden off of her somehow, but if you know Donna, you know she was always thinking of everyone else but herself. A selfless woman, our mother, would give her last breath if it meant it would save another human. She always saw good in everyone she met, she was the first to offer help and the last to want to hang up the phone. To memorialize Donna in a way that does justice would take many years, many tears highlighting her gracious qualities. Her sharp wit, great sense of humor, warm heart, and generous spirit will be deeply missed. There will never be another Donna S Hudson; she was eager to show love, first to forgive, and the mother of all mothers. To “Mimi,” her life was her grandbabies. Fly high, Mom (Mimi), take a walk on the wild side, the most beautiful beach, and with every ounce of sand, may you know you were loved as deep as the ocean.
