New Iberia - A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Columbia, Missouri for Thomas Ashing, Jr., age 76, who passed away peacefully at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center on Thursday, February 29, 2024, in Lafayette. Thomas Ashing, Jr. was born on May 9, 1947, in Fort Smith, Arkansas and he was a resident of New Iberia. Tom was a great man loved by many. He proudly served out country in the Navy. Tom loved to fish and especially on the bayou with his brother. He had a very adventurous life that took him to many places before he settled down in Columbia, Missouri where he lived for over 25 years before he made his final move “back home” as he called it, to New Iberia, Louisiana where he and Brenda could be with his brother, Ronnie and Ronnies wife, Peggy. Tom was a tinkerer, he always had to be doing something. As he got older and it took him longer to finish a task, he would have more “extra” pieces all the time. Tom was a transportation driver most of his life, whether it was a cab or bus. He always enjoyed being outside and meeting new people. Tom married Brenda in 1991. They loved to play pool, go camping, play cards and going fishing together. They enjoyed each other’s company and always spent time with family whenever they could. Tom loved his family and they loved him. “He left to soon for us, but the perfect time for our Lord and Savior, he will be missed greatly but we know we will be with him again one day.” Thomas Ashing, Jr. is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Brenda Ellen Ashing; his children, Loretta Dee (Tim) Ralph, John Christopher (Tina) McIntyre, Nona Louise (Brandin)Wieberg, Joseph Victor (Lynn) McIntyre, Troy Edward Ashing, and Mary Ella (Jeff) Kreisel; his grandchildren, Jonathon Randall Bagley, Tabia Elizabeth (Jason) Jones, Vivian Leigh Anna Bagley, Tanika Renee’(Jusma) Ralph, Timothy Wayne Ralph Jr., Roena Mae Ralph, Nicole Louise O’Bryan, Andrew William Brown, T.J. Ray, Terin (Sam) Hughey, Trevor Ray, Trenton Ray, Trinity McIntyre, Mikayla (Ben) McDaniel, Nicholas (Kaylee) Patredis, Kali Jo McIntyre, James Diedrich, Makenzie McIntyre, Thomas Ashing, Genell Ashing, LeighAnna Ashing, Kaleb Kreisel, and two grandchildren from Janis; his great-grandchildren, Kason Wayne Jones, George Bradley Jones, Kiernan Cole Noland, Elaina Merve Mboumba, Kibo Mathurin Mboumba, Mawenzi Amys Mboumba, Baylee Ray, Tanner Ray, Waylon Huey, Rex Garafoll, Sage Bauza, and Brielle Patredis; as well as his siblings, Kathryn Loyce (John) Smith, Johnny Wesley (Sedonia) Pope, Ronald Wayne (Peggy) Pope, and Walter Rufus (Janis) Pope. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Ashing, Sr. and Ella May Endinger Epperson; his daughter, Janice Ashing; his baby brother before birth; his baby brother, Kenneth; as well as his sister-in-law, Janis.
