Theresa Harrington

Maurice - A Liturgy of the Word service will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 5:00 pm at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice for Theresa Harrington, age 81, who passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024, in Maurice. Deacon Denis Lacroix will officiate the service. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 2:00 pm until time of service at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice. A Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 pm during the visitation. Theresa Harrington was born on June 12, 1943, in Kaplan and she was a lifelong resident of Kaplan. She was in education as a Religion Teacher for years employed by Maltrait Memorial in Kaplan and Mount Carmel Elementary in Abbeville. Theresa went on to work for Vermilionville in Lafayette as a talented craftsperson making Job's tear rosaries, sharing Cajun culture stories, superstitions and beliefs. She also performed many cooking demos to feed visitors. In later years, Theresa was a caregiver to the elderly. Her favorite things to do were Reading, Cooking, Tending to her plants and telling jokes (lots of them). She would say sit down and let me tell you this joke. When her daughters would get to her house it was, "Come give Momma a hug and kiss." Spreading kindness and love was of the utmost importance to Theresa. Anyone who met her knew immediately that she was genuinely interested in their stories. Theresa also had many stories of her own. Her beauty radiated inside and out because of her willingness to take care of others. Her daily prayers were always for other people. Theresa was also a traiteur (faith healer) helping others with ailments through God's guidance. She instilled kindness, peace and caring in her family and her legend will live on with her saying "Be Kind, Be Kind, Be Kind." Theresa is survived by her children, Donna Mire (Mickey) and Jennie Gary (Stephen); her grandchildren, Darian Chapman (Seth), Caleb Mire (Sami), Ainsley Gary and Ethan Gary; her great-grandchild, Lily Chapman; her siblings, Jane Harrington, Russell Harrington, and Pamela H. Sherman (James); as well as her nieces, Melanie Harrington and Danielle Theriot (Jason) ; as well as her nephews, Rodney Harrington and Draper Sherman (Shaina). She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Harrington and Imay Harrington; her brother, Rodney Harrington; her baby sister, Elizabeth Harrington; as well as her brother-in-law, Donald Harrington. Our Momma loved animals & mostly her grand fur babies (Millie, Gracie, Yeti, Reine, Willow, Maggie, KitKat and Jasper). Arrangements have been entrusted to Cypress Funeral Home & Crematory, 206 W.
