Abbeville - A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, at the Cypress Funeral Home Chapel in Maurice for Stanley “Shooky” James Meaux, age 71, who passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, in Baton Rouge. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Cypress Funeral Home Chapel in Maurice. Shooky was born on December 9, 1950, in Abbeville and was a lifelong resident of Vermilion Parish. After graduating from Abbeville High School in 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Donnie in 1971. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1970 to 1974. Shooky was an avid gardener and never met a dog or plant that he didn’t take in and nurture. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, working with his hands, and listening to music. Shooky’s greatest joy in life was being a dad to his two daughters. When Shooky’s grandchildren were born and he was promoted to “Poppy”, he proudly accepted the new role and showered them with love. He was known for having the best laugh and being the life of the party wherever he went. Shooky was a friend to all; when anyone met him, he made them feel loved and part of his family. He will be dearly missed. Shooky is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Donnie Meaux; his children, Bridget Meaux and Alana Meaux Wang (Lin); his grandchildren, Alec James Huang, Arthur James Huang, and Luci Wang; and his siblings, Glenda Lewis (Glenn), Ray Meaux (Elsie), Tony Meaux (Diane), Arnold Wayne Meaux (Rachel), and Angela Hebert (Joey). He was preceded in death by his parents, Eustis and Beulah Meaux. In lieu of flowers, please celebrate Shooky’s life with potted plants to keep his memory and green-thumb legacy alive. The family wishes to offer a heartfelt thank you to the nurses, doctors, and staff of Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge Regional Medical Center as well as the emergency room staff at Abbeville General Hospital for treating him with such care and compassion during his time of need.
