Lafayette - A Liturgy of the Word service will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice for Ronald J. Best, age 70, who passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026 in Lafayette. Deacon Tim Marcantel will officiate the services. Visitation will begin on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice. A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Tim Marcantel on Sunday at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Monday, March 30, 2026 from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice. Pallbearers will be Patrick Best, Cyrus Best, Jack Burns, Nicholas Best, Leonard Oakes, and Edward Best. Ronald Best was born on September 29, 1955 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, and he was a longtime resident of Lafayette. He worked as an engineer who retired from John H Carter in Lafayette and had a brilliant mind; he was a true leader of men. Ron worked as hard as he played and loved every aspect of life. He was a sports enthusiast who loved coaching his boys and their friends in youth football and baseball. Ron was a serious fan of Fantasy Football as well. He also loved his alma mater, Penn State. He had a great sense of humor. He was a people person and loved all things Louisiana; he loved Lafayette, Louisiana cuisine, Mardi Gras, and New Orleans. He will be dearly missed by his family and loved ones. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Holly Ann Best; his children, Patrick Best, Cyrus Best, Jack Burns, and Nicholas Best; his grandchildren, Augustine Best and Annabeth Best; his brother, Edward Best and wife Debby; his brother-in-law, Leonard Oakes and his wife Lisa; a host of beloved nieces and nephews; as well as his precious dog, Maggie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Theresa Best; his sister, Terri Taormina; and his brother, Timothy “Tim” Best. In Lieu of flowers, please donate to MD Anderson Houston Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society Ron’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center for the care they provided him during his time of need.
