Rayne - A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 10:30 am in Forest Park Church of Christ in Crowley for Richard “Bubba” Sonnier, Jr., age 37, who passed away at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center on Friday, September 8, 2023, in Lafayette. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and resume on Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 9:00 am until service time in Forest Park Church of Christ in Crowley. Internment will take place in the Sensat Cemetery in Egan immediately following the service. Richard “Bubba” Sonnier, Jr. was born on June 27, 1986, in Crowley to Richard Sonnier, Sr. and Debra Hebert Sonnier and he was a lifelong resident of Acadia Parish. He graduated from Crowley High School before joining the Army National Guard. He was actively deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan before being honorably discharged. Richard had a big smile and an even bigger heart. When he could, he loved to give when someone was in need. A jokester, he shared his laughter and joy with his nieces, neighbors, and friends. He loved to hear stories about everyone's days and was always quick to pay for dessert, especially ice cream. He loved his son, Paxton and dog, Ottis more than anything and shared a special bond with his sister and nieces. Richard will be dearly missed. Richard was the loving father of Paxton Sonnier of Crowley; brother of Alisha Sonnier Lambousy (Matthew) of Estherwood; brother of Mika Sonnier (Nicole) of Crowley; son of Richard Sonnier Sr. of Crowley; stepson of Juanita Sonnier of Crowley; and honorary brother of Bethany Comeaux (Steve) of Egan. He also was the proud uncle of nieces Anna Stakes Martinez (Chris) of Rayne, Halyn Sonnier of Crowley, Aliyah Stakes of Estherwood, Avery Lambousy of Estherwood, and Rylee Comeaux of Egan; as well as uncle of Ethan Comeaux of Egan, and great-uncle of Eren Martinez of Rayne. He was preceded in death by his mother, Debra Hebert Sonnier of Iota; grandfather Morgan Hebert, Sr. of Jennings; grandmother, Lena Lawrence Hebert of Iota; and uncle Morgan Hebert, Jr. of Evangeline.
