Leonard Oscar Sudduth

Lafayette - Leonard Oscar Sudduth was born on June 30, 1936, on the Sudduth farm outside of Opelousas, LA and died on June 25, 2023, in Lafayette, LA at the age of 86. He graduated from Washington High School in Washington, LA. Leonard was a lifelong educator, having received his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from SLI in Lafayette, LA and a Master of Education and a plus 30 in Education from the University of Mississippi. Prior to retirement, he was the Principal of Baldwin Elementary School having worked for the St. Mary Parish School Board for more than thirty years. Following retirement, he was the School Administrator of the Chitimacha Tribal School. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin, Methodist and friend. Leonard loved many sports, especially football and baseball, keeping an immaculate yard, grilling the perfect steak, serving in his church, and anything his children or grandchildren were involved in on any given day. Survivors are his wife of nearly sixty-three years, Lucy Shipp Sudduth of Lafayette, LA; daughters, Lisa Sudduth of Lafayette, LA; Amy Sudduth of Shreveport, LA; Susan Davis and her husband, Richard (Rick) Davis and grandchildren, Nicholas (Nick) Davis, Emily Davis and Katelyn (Katie) Davis all of Tuscaloosa, AL; and sister, and brother-in-law, Marguerite (Sis) and Albert Ortego of Washington, LA. Left to cherish his memory are his nephews, nieces, cousins,several longtime friends, and his very special friend, Traci, who he referred to in the past year along with Lisa as part of “the two” as they assisted with his caregiving. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Carl Sudduth, and mother, Gera Ehrhardt Sudduth.
