Lafayette - Laura Jan Greco, 72, passed away peacefully on February 24, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and deep New Orleans pride that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew her. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Jan carried the spirit of the city in everything she did — its music, its vibrant colors, its resilience, and its unmistakable warmth. Most recently residing in Broussard, she remained, at heart, a New Orleanian through and through. Jan was the beloved widow of Clarence Albert Greco, a well-known restaurateur in the French Quarter whose life and legacy were deeply intertwined with hers. Together they embodied the vibrancy, hospitality, and strong sense of community that define New Orleans. Their love story was one of partnership, devotion, and shared laughter. She is survived by her loving daughters, Phyllia Comeaux (husband Randy Comeaux) and Alexzondra Chavarria-Greco (husband Eduardo Chavarria), followed by her cherished grandchildren, Colton, Jaiden, and Mateo. Nothing brought Jan more happiness than being “Memere” to her cherished grandsons. They were the pride and joy of her life. In her later years, she especially treasured time spent playing games, laughing, and creating memories with her boys. Those simple, joyful moments meant the world to her. Jan will be remembered for her deep roots in the New Orleans community and the lasting impact she made on everyone around her. In her younger years, she was actively involved in the NORD Theater, where her love for performance and creativity flourished. She also proudly danced as a cheerleader for the New Orleans Saints Mademoiselles, embracing the excitement and pageantry of the city she adored. She loved to dance, sing, sew, and collect timeless pieces of art— each a reflection of her vibrant and expressive spirit. One of her greatest joys was reflecting on her past experiences in life and sharing stories from her younger days. Jan brought light and laughter wherever she went. Her warmth was immediate, her resilience unwavering, and her spirit enduring. She leaves behind not only memories, but a living legacy carried forward by her daughters, son-in-law, and grandsons, in whom her strength and joy will continue to shine. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. Jan’s life was a celebration — of family, of community, and of the beautiful rhythm of New Orleans. Details regarding services and memorials will be shared with family and friends at a later date. The family ask that no flowers be sent, and instead you may choose to honor her by donating to a charity of your choice in her name.
