J.C. "Buster" Griffin

Abbeville - A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 29, 2023, at 3:00 pm in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville for J.C. “Buster” Griffin, age 94, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and family at his residence on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in Abbeville, LA. Father Louie Richard, Pastor St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 29, 2023, from 1:00 pm until the time of service in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, May 29, 2023, at 2:30 pm in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. J.C. “Buster” Griffin was born on October 2, 1928, in Abbeville and he was a lifelong resident of Abbeville. Buster Griffin was a successful farmer and cattleman for over 40 years. He thought BIG and believed active involvement would make a difference for his family and friends. Buster served in leadership roles as President of Vermilion Parish Farm Bureau and President of the Vermilion Catholic School Board for many years. He served as a Director at the Vermilion Farmers Co-op, Vermilion Soil Conservation District, Vermilion Parish Drainage Board, LA Rice Promotion Board, LA State Farm Bureau Board, LA Pork Promotion Board, and the Lafayette Diocesan School Board. However, his pride and joy were his family. Buster’s happiest days were family celebrations surrounded by his children, 16 grandchildren, and soon to be 20 great grandchildren. He loved to boil crawfish and cook hog cracklins. In his retirement he continued his love for farming and spent many afternoons with his loving wife, Lola, taking long rides looking at rice and sugarcane fields. He often told his family he had lived a good life, was proud of all, and the Lord had taken good care of him. Buster will be dearly missed. Buster is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Lola Vigneaux Griffin; his four daughters, Melissa Campesi, Joan Bertrand and her husband, A.D., Leah Paskewich and her husband, Frank, and Rhonda Guidry; his two sons, Stephen Griffin and his wife, Lynn and Scott Griffin; his 16 grandchildren; his soon-to-be 20 great-grandchildren; his brother, Dwyer Joseph Griffin, Jr.; along with a host of dear friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Clayton Griffin; his parents, Paula and Dwyer Griffin; his sister, Beatrice Debo; as well as his sons-in-law, Ross Campesi and Shannon Guidry.
