Gloria Walker Conlin

Abbeville - A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at St. Alphonsus Church in Maurice at 1:00 PM for Gloria Walker Conlin, beloved wife of the late Arthur "Mike" Conlin, Jr., who passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025 at the age of 87. Fr. Paul will be the celebrant of the mass. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at St. Alphonsus Church in Maurice from 11:00 AM until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 12:00 PM. A committal service will follow the Memorial Mass at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Edwina and Bartow L. Walker, her brother, Bartow L. Walker, Jr.; as well as her brother-in-law, Bobby, and sister-in-law Courtney. She is survived by her son, Timothy M. Conlin (Margie) of Broussard, Colleen Quadrini (Dean) of Huntsville, AL, and Erin Faulk (Paul) of Abbeville; eight grandchildren, Casey Choplin (Nicholas), Ashley Granger (Sean), Andrew Quadrini (Steffani), Victoria Tribout (Mitchell), Alexander Quadrini (Paige), Ashley F Burks (Ian), Joseph Faulk (Brooke) and Haley F Fontenot (Ian); nine great-grandchildren, Alei, Avery, Alexander, Harlie, Hunter, Sophie Magnolia, Everett, Knox, and Evelyn; her brother-in-law, Dan; her sister-in-law, Ellen Conlin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria was born in Houston, TX and moved to New Orleans when she was 13 years old. Later, she married Mike who began his career in teaching and coaching. Mike coached at schools in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. In 1970, the family moved to Abbeville and fell in love with the people and the Cajun culture. Gloria was very active in the community. She was a Girl Scout leader, secretary of TRIAD, a member of Keep Abbeville Beautiful, Vermilion Parish Library Foundation, active at St. Alphonsus church, and active in disseminating education information around the state to keep school board members and teachers informed. Gloria was President of the Fleur de Lis Republican Women’s Club. In 2014, Gloria was inducted into the Acadiana Order of Living Legends. Gloria’s philosophy of life was simple: We need good teachers and excellent libraries. We all want the best for our community. There comes a point when one cannot just sit back when something is wrong and allow it to destroy a community and therefor the people you love.
