Maurice - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church for Donelle Louise Duhon, age 70, who passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 5, 2025. Rev. Paul Bienvenu Pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church will Celebrate the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice. A Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Donelle will be remembered for the love she had for her immediate and extended family and her faith. Her life centered around her role as a devoted mother and grandmother. She found joy and purpose in caring for her dear ones and made them feel valued and deeply loved. Donelle believed that her legacy would not be about wealth but about love and that you did not have to be perfect to be precious to her. She was also known for keeping up with current affairs, especially local and national politics, and did not hesitate to call out foul play when the political agenda was off base. She also wielded her opinions on social media and made sure to keep others updated with facts about her life and family on this platform. After graduating from Our Lady of Fatima High School in 1972, Donelle continued her education and earned a Nursing degree from T.H. Harris. She began her career as a pediatric nurse, a profession she chose because of her compassion for people, especially children. Throughout her life she worked in the care and service of others, and many have felt and benefited from her caring nature. Never one to shirk responsibility she completed tasks willingly that others would not take on. She is already missed but her legacy lives on in the things she did, and in the quiet (and sometimes not so quiet), steady way she loved whole-heartedly. We will remember her often when we have that strong cup of Community coffee which she so enjoyed and always offered when you visited with her. While she slowed her pace in later life, partly due to health issues, in her younger days she loved to listen to live music, dance and pass a good time. She was fun to be around and always could hold up her end of a conversation with ease. She cooked a good Cajun meal, but her favorite meal was when she was treated to boiled crabs and ice-cold beer, especially if this meal happened near the beach in Grand Isle. She also took pride in her lovely bed of daylilies comprised of many beautiful colors and varieties that she collected over years. As an avid sports fan, she often would take in a football game and be a vocal cheerleader for her favorite team, the Saints. She is survived by her children, Elina Soileau and Jimmy Soileau, her grandchildren, Mia Gonzales and Cristian Soileau, her mother, Louise Landry Mouton, her brother, Gary Duhon, niece, Morgan Duhon Abshire), great nephew, Keller, sister-in-law, Melanie Broussard Delhomme, nephew, Ethan Duhon, niece, Mia Johnson, great nephews, Henry and Charlie, brother and sister in-law, Larry and Michaela Blanchard, niece and nephews, Kerrie Blanchard Brogden, Christopher Blanchard, Zachary Blanchard, stepmother, Elva Duhon, stepsisters, Lynette Smith, Missy Gregoire, Karlene LeBouef, stepmother, Molena Duhon, stepsisters, Alberta Roy and Bethani Skidmore and stepbrother David Skidmore. her four-legged child, Scooter and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Claude and Elina Hebert Landry, paternal grandparents, Robert and Anite Sonnier Duhon, father, Donald Duhon, brothers, Byron Duhon and Dwight Duhon, stepfather, Elmo Mouton and nephew, Cody Suire. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cypress Funeral Home & Crematory, 206 W. Lafayette St., Maurice, LA 70555.
