Donald "Donnie" Gene Rainwater

Lafayette - Donald Gene Rainwater, known to his friends and family as "Donnie,” passed away at the age of 70, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a lifetime of cherished memories. Donnie was a devoted Christian husband to his beloved wife of 30 years, Regina, and a proud step father to his daughter, Heather, and son, Adam. He found immense joy in his role as a grandfather, doting on his grandchildren: Alexis, Nash, Zayne, Stryder and Zoe Jane. His love for his family was unwavering, and he never missed an opportunity to share his wisdom, humor, and the occasional stubborn streak that made him so uniquely him. All of Donnie's grandchildren lovingly called him "Mean Ol' Man", a nickname bestowed upon him by his first granddaughter, Alexis, when she was 3 years old. Alexis fell off the bed and Donnie exclaimed "On no, you didn't break my floor did you!?" She said "Paw Paw, you're a mean old man!" The name stuck and even Santa knew to use it. He is survived by his sister, Brenda, as well as his nephew, Jonathon, and niece, Alicia, who shared his love of music with and all of whom held a special place in his heart. Donnie grew up with his sister Brenda on Allison Street in Morgan City, LA and they played until the street lights came on. They were members of The First Baptist Church and loved attending Vacation Bible School in the summer. As Donnie and Brenda grew older they would reminisce about their lives often. Donnie was more than just a brother to Brenda, he was her best friend. Brenda loved her baby brother dearly. Donnie’s best friend to this day was Clyde Stansbury, they were like brothers. Donnie was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Faye Neill and father, John Doyle Rainwater. Although Donnie lost his parents as a very young man, he never failed to honor them with kind words and prayers during holidays with his family. Donnie will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his sharp wit, and his ability to make those around him smile. Whether he was telling stories, offering advice, or just being his “Mean Ol’ Man” self, he made an unforgettable impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he is gone, his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved. His family and friends will continue to honor his memory by sharing his stories, carrying on his traditions, and, most importantly, keeping his sense of humor alive. A service to celebrate Donnie’s life will be held at Family Life Church in Lafayette Louisiana April 26th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
