Charles Wesley "Buddy" Bennett

Lafayette - In loving memory of Charles Wesley Bennett, please join us for a Memorial Service honoring his life on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, at 1:00 PM at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Rev. Michael Bordelon and Rev. John Clark will be the celebrants. Visitation will be held at 12:00 PM until service time at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Reception to follow. Charles Wesley "Buddy" Bennett, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2024, in Lafayette. Buddy was born on October 6, 1939 in Lecompte, Louisiana and he was a resident of Lafayette. He was a long-time educator and counselor at Lafayette High School from 1963 to 1998, and he was a member of the Lafayette Parish School Counselor Association. Buddy was a St. Barnabas Episcopal Church vestry member and treasurer. He was also a member of the Krewe of Triton for over 20 years. Buddy was an avid sports enthusiast. He was known by many names in his various roles: Charles, Charlie, Buddy, Mr. Bennett, Uncle Buddy, Dad, but his favorite title was "Pappaw". He will be deeply missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Cecile Antoinette "Toni" Bennett; his children, Charles "Wes" Bennett, Jr. (Kim) of Lafayette, Stephen Bennett (Melisa) of Pearland, Texas, and Robert Bennett (Stephanie) of Lafayette; his grandchildren, Erin Bennett Broussard, Emily Bennett McDonald, Chris Bennett, Julia Bennett, Ian Bennett, Andrew Bennett, Ruston Bennett, and Adler Bennett; his great-grandchildren, Payton Broussard, Emily Broussard, Cooper McDonald, and Rory McDonald; his siblings, Jim Bennett (Jenny) of Jersey Village, Texas, Karen Bennett Carpenter (Eddie) of Pollock, Kathy Bennett Arnold (Darrell) of Alexandria, and Betty Bennett Whitehead (late husband John) of Natchitoches; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Bennett and Nell Bennett; as well as his brother, Capt. Ronald Bennett. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Hospice of Acadiana for the care and compassion they showed Buddy and his family during their time of need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Buddy to Hospice of Acadiana and St. Jude's. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cypress Funeral Home & Crematory, 206 W. Lafayette St., Maurice, LA 70555.
