Lafayette - A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 10:00 am at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice for Catherine Ann Sparks, age 76, who passed away peacefully at Brookdale Assisted Living on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in Lafayette. Reverend Derek Weber will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 9:00 am until service time at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice. Catherine Ann Sparks was born on November 23, 1946, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and she was a longtime resident of Lafayette. Her priorities in life were always her faith and her grandchildren. Cathy had so much love for her children and grandchildren that she moved to every city where a new grandchild was born at some point to care for them. She served as a Lieutenant nurse in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received several medals for her overseas service. That time served and Cathy’s exposure to agent orange during the war caused most of her health issues but she battled them bravely over the years. No matter what kind of pain the days would bring her she was faithful in prayer and worried more about others than herself. In Cathy’s darkest moments, when fear and pain crippled her and she couldn't get out the words to say, she would always say Jesus and be comforted. She will be greatly missed by so many. Catherine is survived by her children, Jeff Sparks (Yvette), Jennifer Mata (Raymond), and Justin Sparks (Aries); her grandchildren, Kara Sparks, Wade LeJeune, Gabriella Mata, William “Rudy” Rudell Sparks; her brother, Larry Carney (Loida); as well as her nieces, Lashell and Lindsey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Rita Carney. The family wishes to offer a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Brookdale Senior Living and Hope Hospice; as well as The Pentecostals of Lafayette for the care and compassion they offered Catherine Ann Sparks and her family during her time of need. In lieu of flowers, the family request that a tree be planted or donations be made in Catherine’s name to a Veterans Charity of your choice. Cypress Funeral Home & Crematory, 206 W.
