Bernice Wagner Coleman

Jeanerette - A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of The Rosary Catholic Church for Bernice Wagner Coleman, age 94, who passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 in Lafayette. A rosary will be prayed for Bernice at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of The Rosary Catholic Church followed by a Christian Mass at 11:00 AM. Father Francis Damoah will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass. Bernice was born on September 19, 1931 in Port Arthur, Texas. She was a devoted wife to Clarence Coleman Jr. until his death in 2002. As a military spouse, Bernice enjoyed traveling with her husband from the East coast to the West coast during his tenure in the Air Force for over 20 years. Upon his retirement, Jeanerette became their home. Bernice was employed at Iberia General Hospital for over 20 years in the Dietary Department. She was active in the political process by providing transportation to eligible voters and a constant figure at the voting polls as a commissioner. Bernice was also a member of American Legion Post 549 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling and entertaining her family and many friends. She was that second mother to all. Bernice possessed such a joyous and humble spirit, that she made everyone in her presence feel the same joy. She had a servants' heart for anyone that needed help or encouragement. She is survived by her children, Michael W. Coleman, Anita D. Coleman, and Clarence Coleman III; her grandchildren, Malcolm E. Biddles-Arika, Jamal Matthew Coleman, Raykita D. Coleman, and Bria C. Coleman; her great grandchild, Akira D. Biddles; her nephew, Ronald Bernard; her nieces, Tierney Greene, Annette, Enola, and Druella Coleman; her great niece, Kristen; and her great nephews, Landon and Fabien Ward. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Clarence Coleman Jr.; her parents, Murray and Florence Wagner; her brothers, Herman Wagner, James Wagner, Murray Wagner Jr.; and her sister, Oweda Wagner-Coleman. We the family are grateful to the Doctors and Nurses who administered the care as needed while in IGMC New Iberia, and St. Joseph Hospice, Lafayette. Special appreciation to her devoted Personal Attendant Celestine Edwards who cared for her needs and more for many years. We also thank the many family members especially Annette Coleman (niece), Tierney E. Greene (niece) for their listening ear and their time.
