Mary Anthony Trappey Domingue

Lafayette - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm at St. John Cathedral in Lafayette for Mary Anthony Trappey Domingue, who passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by family after an extended illness. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 12:00 pm until service time at St. John Cathedral in Lafayette. A Rosary will be recited by Christie Domingue at 1:15 pm. Mary was born on June 22, 1937 in Lafayette, Louisiana to Randolph and Ella B. Trappey. She was the youngest of four children. Mary was the valedictorian of her Mt. Carmel Class of 1955. She went on to graduate from Southwestern Louisiana University in 1959, eventually returning to her studies to earn her Masters + 30. She was a librarian for 26 years with the Lafayette Parish School System, having worked at Youngsville Middle, L. Leo Judice, Ossun Elementary and retiring from Woodvale Elementary, where she started the Book Character Parade, something she was always proud of. After retirement, she continued to work in the school system as a substitute teacher and teaching assistant. She proudly served a term as the President of the Lafayette Library Association. During her summer breaks from school, she would travel to Hermosa Beach, CA to her son, Stephen’s Ragin Cajun Restaurant where she taught cooking classes, introducing the Californians to the delights of Cajun Cuisine. She enjoyed crocheting, specially making baby blankets for MeMaw’s grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved spending time at the beach, playing bridge, reading, and trying her luck at the casino. Her most treasured moments were those spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years, John Boring “Bo” Domingue; children, John Edward Domingue (Christie), Mary Elen Malagarie (Terry), Therese Hollier (Blaine), Stephen Domingue, David Domingue (Mitzi), and Jeannine Domingue, and former daughter in law, Julie Domingue; 15 grandchildren, John Domingue, Jr. (Mishell), Brad Michael (Catherine), Nicholas Malagarie (Sarah), Alex Malagarie (Katie), Allyson Samaha (Drew), Michael Hollier (Chelsea), Sarah Hollier, David Domingue, Natalie Leon (Holden), Paul Domingue, Jr., Elise Fenney (Cameron), Phillip Domingue (Kim), Hudson Pischer, Anne Catherine Rabalais (Christian), and Jeanne Melancon (Austin); 17 great grandchildren, Jeanna and Jackson Domingue, Opal and Olive Michael, Addie, Stella, Millie and Oliver Malagarie, Ellen and Thomas Samaha, Ashton and Aidan Leon, Riley Horton, Blake Fenney, Lucy Domingue, Caroline Melancon, Evelyn Rabalais, and two on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, Randolph J. Trappey, Sr. and Ella B. Trappey; her son, Paul Michael Dominigue; her three siblings Claire Rose Trappey Bourque, Randolph J. Trappey, Jr. and Francis A. Trappey; and former daughter in law, Debra Reed Domingue. The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice of Acadiana especially Nurse Joe Ann Harrington for the compassionate care given, Ms. Massey, and most of all her very special caregivers from Share Care, Casey James and Sarah Veron, for the love and compassion shown to Mary throughout her end-of-life journey.
