Effie C. Sonnier

Maurice - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 10:00 am in St. Basil Catholic Church for Effie C. Sonnier, age 80, who passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation on Friday, September 15, 2023, in Maurice. Father Donavan Labbe will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023, from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 6:00 pm at Cypress Funeral Home in Maurice. Effie C. Sonnier was born on October 29, 1942, in Lafayette and she was a longtime resident of Lafayette. She was a loving mother and grandmother who was best known for her great sense of humor and her amazing gumbo. Effie enjoyed playing bingo, doing crossword puzzle, barbecuing with her family, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. Effie is survived by her children, Beatrice “Katie” Guilbeau, Kermit Sonnier, and John Sonnier; her grandchildren, Bryan J. Fant (Melissa), Thomas J. Fant (Marsha), Scott P. Mire (Amber), Wyatt Gilbert (Shyanne), Braxtyn Sonnier, Gavin Sonnier, Bethany J. Borde (Kyle), Shannon Sherrets, Devany Courville, and Corey Sonnier; her great-grandchildren, Dylan Fant, Nathan Fant, Carson Fant, Dawson Fant, Hailey Fant, Samantha Fant, Acelynn McCardle, Paige Hebert, Aubrey Mire, Elijah Mire, Riley Borde, Kara Borde, Elina Smith, Marick Courville, Maddix Courville, Kingston Sonnier, and Chyenne Sonnier; as well as her siblings, Mary Boudreaux, Robert Cormier, and Margaret Denais. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry P. Sonnier; her parents, Julien Cormier and Beatrice R. Cormier; her daughter, Pauline S. Gilbert; as well as her son-in-law, Glen J. Guilbeau. Pallbearers will be Braxtyn Sonnier, Gavin Sonnier, Bryan Fant, Dylan Fant, Thomas Fant, and Wyatt Gilbert. Burial will take place in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Scott. The family wishes to offer a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation; as well as Traditions Hospice for the care and compassion they offered Effie C.
